Register Now: Two Academic Seminars on Energy Transition with a Professor from Kyoto University

Energy transition is not merely a matter of technological innovation and emissions reduction; it also raises important questions concerning social equity, institutional frameworks, and economic development models. To foster academic dialogue on these issues, the Faculty of Management at the School of Business and Management (HSB), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will organize two academic seminars featuring Professor Dimiter Ialnazov from Kyoto University, Japan, on October 26 and 29, 2026.

The seminars will provide lecturers, researchers, postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and other interested participants with opportunities to explore international research perspectives on energy transition and discuss the challenges associated with moving towards sustainable development models in Vietnam and other emerging economies.

Professor Dimiter Ialnazov – A Scholar Specializing in Energy Transition and Sustainable Development

The Faculty of Management at HSB is delighted to welcome Professor Dimiter Ialnazov from Kyoto University, Japan, who will visit the Faculty in October 2026 to engage in academic activities and share his expertise.

Professor Ialnazov specializes in political economy, development economics, and institutional economics, with a particular research focus on energy transition and sustainable development, especially in emerging and developing economies. His research contributes to a deeper understanding of how institutions, public policies, and socioeconomic conditions influence the promotion of renewable energy and the transformation of energy systems.

These issues are particularly relevant to Vietnam, where the energy transition requires balancing emissions reduction, energy security, business competitiveness, and equity in development. Approaching energy transition through the lenses of institutional economics and political economy broadens the discussion beyond technological choices to encompass policy mechanisms, market dynamics, and the conditions necessary for long-term transformation.

Professor Ialnazov's visit to HSB will create valuable opportunities for faculty members, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students to engage in academic discussions on sustainable development while fostering potential research collaborations and academic partnerships in the future.

Two Academic Seminars: From a Just Energy Transition to Institutional Analytical Frameworks

The two seminars are designed to complement one another, examining energy transition through the interconnected perspectives of sustainable development, social equity, and political economy.

SEMINAR 01

“Sustainable Development and a Just Energy Transition”

This seminar will explore the relationship between energy transition and sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of ensuring fairness and equity throughout the transition process. Beyond the goals of reducing emissions and expanding clean energy, energy transition raises critical questions about the distribution of costs and benefits, its impacts on workers and communities, and access to energy resources among different social groups.

From this perspective, a just energy transition is not only an environmental imperative but also a matter of institutional quality, policy design, and effective coordination among stakeholders across the economy.

TIME: 9:30–11:00 AM | Monday, October 26, 2026

SEMINAR 02

“An Evolutionary–Institutional and Political Economy Framework for Analyzing Energy Transition”

The second seminar will examine the analytical foundations of energy transition, focusing on evolutionary–institutional approaches and political economy. From this perspective, energy transition is understood as a process of systemic transformation shaped by institutional rules, market structures, stakeholder interests, and policy orientations.

This approach helps explain why countries may pursue different energy transition pathways and why similar policies do not necessarily produce identical outcomes across different socioeconomic contexts. Such insights provide an important foundation for researching and developing energy transition policies tailored to each country's development conditions.

TIME: 9:00–11:00 AM | Thursday, October 29, 2026

Through these two seminars, participants will have the opportunity to engage with an international scholar on both the theoretical and practical dimensions of energy transition, while broadening their comparative perspectives through experiences from economies such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, and China.
