HSB Opens the 2026–2027 Academic Year with a Message to Students: Learn Fast, Research Fast, Become Independent Fast

On the morning of September 5, the Hanoi School of Business and Management (HSB), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, held its Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year at Vo Nguyen Giap Hall. The ceremonial drumbeat marked the beginning of a new academic year filled with enthusiasm, confidence and expectations, while opening a new chapter for generations of HSB students.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi: HSB students need to learn fast, research fast and become independent fast

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi, Rector of HSB, emphasized the need to continuously innovate curricula and teaching methods, equipping students with the ability to learn, conduct research and adapt quickly to changes in the workplace.

According to Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi, AI is opening up new approaches to learning and research. However, students need to master AI rather than become dependent on it, using technology to learn faster, conduct research more effectively and apply knowledge to practice at an earlier stage.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi’s message to HSB students for the new academic year was distilled into three priorities: “Learn fast – research fast – become independent fast.”

Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi also called on lecturers to go beyond transmitting knowledge by accompanying students, helping them accelerate their research, apply knowledge in professional settings and proactively explore creative approaches to learning and practical activities. An important goal is to help students develop the capacity for self-directed learning, independent research and independence from an early stage.

For HSB students, independence also begins with real-world work experience. Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi encouraged students to proactively seek suitable part-time employment from their early university years, not only to earn additional income but, more importantly, to gain experience, appreciate the value of work, and develop perseverance and professional responsibility.

The School will facilitate students’ access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities through its Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Department of Development Cooperation. HSB also supports English-language learning with the aim of helping students achieve an IELTS qualification after their first academic year, while providing English-language scholarships for students facing financial difficulties.

Alongside knowledge and professional competence, Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi expressed his expectation that HSB students would continuously strive to develop well-rounded qualities: diligence in learning and work, kindness, and the courage to stand up for what is right and protect the vulnerable – qualities essential for future leaders.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi noted that university is not only a journey of acquiring knowledge, but also a process of preparing each student to become a mature, capable professional with the confidence and qualities of a future manager.
