Nontraditional Security
Researching next-generation security threats — from cyberspace and the digital economy to climate change — and building comprehensive governance and response capabilities for Vietnam.
Overview
Nontraditional security (NTS) is HSB's flagship research domain, focusing on emerging security challenges beyond conventional military and defense frameworks. The Institute for Nontraditional Security (INS) — VNU's first interdisciplinary public research institution in this field — was established in 2019 and elevated to institute status in 2022, leading scientific research, innovation, and knowledge transfer.
NTS research at HSB spans cybersecurity, digital economic security, environmental security, urban security, maritime security, aviation security, traffic safety management, crime prevention, and disaster mitigation — all supporting Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
